"It's what I burn all the time, so it smells like home to me," she tells House Beautiful. It's the pleasant neutrality of the scent that makes the $28 candle a favorite, according to Joanna. "I find that both men and women love it, and it's just clean. It smells like clean laundry," she adds.

The reality of raising five kids, promoting a new book, and running a business means the Gaines house might not always be the tidiest, and the candle helps disguise that, too. "[It makes the] house smell clean! It's like, oh, we did it! Cleaned!" Joanna jokes.
